| A Note from the

by John Eighmey Welcome to the September, 1998 issue of ACR News. This issue begins the second year for online distribution of ACR News at the web address. A second ACR website is maintained by Rajiv Vaidyanathan and located at . Please visit the ACR Web Page for information about the ACR, membership information, and further information concerning ACR publications and conferences. A third ACR online resource is the list server or online bulletin board maintained by Terry Bristol (University of Arkansas at Little Rockand) and Goutam Chakraborty (Oklahoma State University). Please sign on to the ACR List Server for regular notes, questions, and bulletins from individual ACR members. Instructions for signing on to this service can be found at on the web.
However, online or electronic distribution is fast, flexible, and more efficient than conventional mail. As use of the electronic version grows, ACR members will be encouraged to no longer ask for printed versions of ACR News. We are mindful that this website is being accessed by individuals with diverse means of on-line connections, differing software, and a wide variety of computer equipment. Therefore, to provide information efficiently and effectively, this website is designed for simplicity and minimal downloading time. For website users wishing to print pages, the "tables" HTML capability is used on each page to specify a width that is compatible with standard printers. This also explains the format for the print version of the ACR News. It is printed off the website to promote efficiency in preparing copies of the ACR News for distribution via the mail. Submissions from ACR members, and other interested parties will be reviewed by the Newsletter Editor in consultation with ACR officers and posted promptly. Early in September, December, March, and June the contents of the ACR News will be posted to an accessible archive of quarterly issues. Items in each issue that may remain timely, such as active calls for papers, will be continued from issue to issue on the website. You can e-mail newsletter submissions to or mail them to Eighmey at the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, 120 Hamilton Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, IA 50011.
